THE POLITICS OF PAPER

The Politics of Paper
Curated by Ushmita Sahu

Before we know it, paper becomes an inevitable part of our everyday living. The extent to which we take it for granted, like every other essential, never ceases to startle.
The artist’s awakenings — doodling or scribbling or simply handling scraps — also invariably starts with paper, mainly because of its easy availability. As the artist traverses new paths and finds their language, paper can potentially become much more than a passive medium or a static tool. I personally feel connected to this surface because of the freedom it affords and the ideas that emerge as I interact with it. Paper’s plasticity gives it a life of its own.
